Department Overview The Nurse Manager (NM) is a Registered Nurse (RN) who is responsible for operational, human resources, quality, and financial management of the assigned inpatient unit. The NM works with the interdisciplinary team to translate and implement organizational and division priorities into the unit’s operations. The NM ensures a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff. The NM partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with administrative, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures. The NM implements quality and safety initiatives, leads process improvement, ensures adherence to hospital and clinical standards of performance, and human resource management. The NM ensures adherence to regulatory standards, bargaining unit agreements, hospital and clinical standards of performance, and human resource management. The NM creates and sustains a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff. Function/Duties of Position The DCH OR manager reports to the Director of Doernbecher Perioperative Services. This manager organizes, manages, and directs daily operation activities. This position has continuous operational authority and responsibility for accomplishments of departmental goals and objectives. The nurse manager is accountable to and advises the Director in the management of departmental operations to achieve departmental goals and objectives, including fiscal, safety, quality, patient experience and other benchmarks. The Manager is responsible for facilitating a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach in the provision of health care within the departments, ensuring effective delivery of high quality, safe patient care, and assure compliance with regulatory, administrative and clinical policies and procedures. The nurse manager performs managerial and leadership activities including performance management, employee mentoring, project management, process improvement, and leading or participating in organization or departmental initiatives to achieve desired outcomes. The Nurse Manager establishes and maintains effective relationships with patients, families, staff, providers, administration, other departments and agencies. DCH OR maintains operation of 10 surgical/procedural rooms. DCH OR provides surgical care for but not limited to the following Pediatric Subspecialties: Neuro, Otolaryngology, General, Plastics, Dental, OMFS, Dermatology, Urology, Orthopedics, Cardio Thoracic, Peds Cardiac Cath Lab, and Transplant. Coordinates, facilitates, and manages change within perioperative services and the health care institution. Assists in collecting and analyzing data related to quality or performance improvement projects that apply to perioperative services. Assists educators and PPL’s for perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement. Assists perioperative personnel in verifying that appropriate personnel, equipment, and supplies are available. Facilitates or serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care. Participate in the DCH Periop Value stream to improve process through the entire continuum of care. Collaborates with providers and staff to ensure the accreditation standards for American College of Surgeons Children’s Surgery Verification. Collaborates with providers and staff to ensure that accreditation standards for the American College of Surgeons trauma certification are maintained. Provides additional manger support for PRE/POST and Pediatric Sedation in collaboration with NM of these units. Required Qualifications BSN or higher degree in nursing And Master’s degree in nursing or related field, or in process Five years of experience as a registered nurse in a related specialty And Two years recent related management/leadership experience. Experience in complex organization environments. Ability to effectively manage multiple conflicting priorities. Proficient with word processing, computational spreadsheet (e.g., Excel), and presentation software. Professional certification in nursing leadership-Nurse Executive/Administrator within 3 years of assuming the manager role.
