Description
The Mechanical (Equipment/Piping) Engineer will support the Engineering Lead and Product Engineering Manager in delivering high-quality mechanical and piping solutions for hyperscale data center infrastructure. Review and approve engineering drawings, documentation, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards. Monitor engineering work to ensure accuracy and alignment with client specifications, safety practices, and project requirements. Participate in design and development planning sessions to meet customer and industry needs. Prepare technical requisitions (TRs) for mechanical systems and components. Evaluate vendor quotations and provide feedback to the procurement team. Develop and complete mechanical engineering deliverables such as valve lists, equipment lists, piping line lists, stress/flexibility studies, pipe sizing, and equipment data sheets. Generate bulk material take-offs (MTOs) and detailed bills of materials (BOMs). Identify innovative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining quality and schedule integrity. Stay informed on industry developments and recommend updates to programs and applications. Execute assignments independently, make technical decisions and represent the organization in meetings. Apply advanced engineering knowledge to resolve complex issues and unique project conditions. Provide oversight and guidance for outsourced engineering and design work. Create or review project-specific “Design Basis” documents based on codes, client specifications, and scope of supply. Perform or verify pipe str Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university. Other Degrees will be considered (Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, etc.) but will require increase relevant data center expertise. Professional Engineering License (Strongly Preferred). A minimum of 7 years' experience in mechanical design and engineering, with a focus on data center infrastructure. Ability to produce drawings/sketches to illustrate design/ideas. General knowledge and direct experience with the construction, operation, and maintenance of data centers or mechanical systems and components. Strong Knowledge in piping and fire suppression system design and construction AISI - American Iron and Steel institute ANSI - American National Standards Institute ASME - American Society of Mechanical Engineers (specifically B&PV Section VIII, IX, B31.3) ASTM - American Society of Testing and Materials AWS - American Welding Society IBC - International Building Code MFMA - Metal Framing Manufactures Association MSS - Manufactures Standardization Society (Valves and Fittings Industry) OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration NACE - National Association of Corrosion Engineers NFPA - National Fire Protection Association PFI - Pipe Fabrication Institute Experience working with computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software. Fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects Detailed understanding and experience in piping systems, design, layout, routing, components, and piping specialty items. Detailed understanding of chillers, cooling towers, direct and indirect evaporative cooling, mechanical control systems, fan systems, acoustics, pumps, vessels, valves, coolers, and other critical mechanical equipment and systems found within data centers. Basic understanding of electrical equipment and system design within data center driving or affecting mechanical scope.
