OVERVIEW

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist to join our educational team, supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing. In this role, you will work directly with students to support auditory, speech, and language development and ensure access to academic content through individualized instruction and accommodations.
You’ll collaborate closely with families, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and general education staff to develop and implement IEPs and auditory-based learning strategies. Your goal is to empower students with hearing impairments to reach critical academic and developmental milestones.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Valid State Certification in Special Education and/or Deaf Education (Required or Preferred)
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Strong knowledge of hearing assistive technology and instructional accommodations
  • Ability to develop and implement effective, individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Patience, creativity, and a proactive mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • B.S. in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field (M.S. preferred)
  • Familiarity with curriculum modification, behavior management, and early intervention strategies
  • Experience in inclusive and resource-room settings is a plus
    Job Type: Part-time, Contract
    Pay: $38.00 - $58.00 per hour
    Expected Hours: 15-20 per week

Responsibilities
  • Assess students’ hearing abilities and learning styles to develop individualized auditory-based education plans
  • Adapt and deliver curriculum using techniques and technologies suited for students with hearing impairments
  • Support students in developing communication skills, including spoken language, auditory training, and speechreading
  • Utilize assistive technologies such as FM systems, hearing aids, and cochlear implants in the classroom
  • Track and document student progress toward IEP goals and academic outcomes
  • Monitor behavior and implement interventions as needed
  • Prepare students for academic transitions and social integration
  • Engage parents in the learning process and communicate progress and concerns regularly
  • Serve as a mentor or coach to other educators working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., audiologists, speech therapists, school counselors) to support whole-child development
