Dean of School Culture About Forte Preparatory Academy Forte Preparatory Academy is a college preparatory charter school serving students in Queens, New York. Our mission is to prepare all students to graduate from college and lead lives of purpose. We believe that rigorous academics, strong literacy instruction, and a deep engagement with history and literature are essential to that mission. Role Overview We are looking to hire a second Dean of School Culture that is committed to ensuring that everything we do holistically supports a student's success beyond high school. This foundation must be consistently maintained, grade by grade, year to year. The Dean of School Culture leads the school’s efforts to create a positive, structured, disciplined school culture. The Dean of School Culture will work with the other Dean and the school leadership team as a main school contact for parents and guardians. A successful Dean of School Culture is passionate about supporting our students, adapts to changes and cultivates productive relationships with all members of the school community, including faculty, students and families. Key Responsibilities Establishing School Culture Work closely with the leadership team to develop a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and creative school culture Be highly present and visible during school hours, relentlessly ensuring the school has a strong school culture Lead lunch/recess, dismissal, and other transitional experiences and whole-school operations as needed Course Correcting Serve as a point person for discipline/culture issues; in this role, the dean is the primary contact person for all acute discipline issues. Ensure that the school's policies, procedures and protocols for holding all students to high behavioral expectations as stated in the handbook are understood, promoted and reinforced, equitably and consistently, by all students and staff members. Ensures that consequences are fairly and consistently implemented throughout the school. Analyzing Trends Closely track and prepare data and information regarding student behavior, consequences, supports and interventions to inform school-wide, subgroup and individual student strategies and decisions. Closely monitor and problem-solve student attendance challenges, in partnership with families and colleagues. Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture. Coordinating implementation of an advisory program for students. Building Support Pathways Assist in designing and executing parent workshops. Ensure that the student behavior management efforts are restorative and that the implementation of student development programs and initiatives are done at the highest level of quality with full support. Assist with Saturday School programs. Developing Future Leaders Aid teachers to improve their instructional practice, especially as it relates to behavior management, responsive classroom, and social-emotional learning Assist teachers, students, and parents in the effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plans (in conjunction with the Leadership). Coaches and develops staff, including planning and leading professional development Qualifications At least 3 years working with large groups of students Prior experience coaching teachers or leading instructional improvement work Demonstrated experience building a foundation of positive culture and growth Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to manage complex instructional systems and deliver consistently on deadlines Ability to analyze instructional data and translate insights into concrete coaching actions Exceptional reliability, follow-through, and attention to detail Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) preferred, but not required What We Are Looking For You are inspired by Forte Prep’s mission, vision, and values.
