SUMMARY

EDGE Marine is looking to fill the position of deck hand on our barge fleet. This position will have the candidate working on our waterside operations. The deck hand will be working on both a steel flat deck barge, equipped with forklift and/or oil barge. These barges are pushed alongside vessels to receive waste/sludge while in port. This position will require the candidate to comfortably work with ropes/lines, securing to vessels, and operating on marine crafts for extended periods. The offloading of these barges will also be required once you depart the ship.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be comfortable working in marine environment.
  • Position requires physical labour (carrying, lifting, dragging, pushing, pulling)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain accurate record keeping of work performed.
  • Ability to operate a forklift an asset.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate lifting will be common.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Observe all PPE & Safety Requirements of EDGE Marine/Bluewater Agencies/Halifax Port Authority.
  • Safe/timely loading/offloading of waste materials from our barge.
  • Organize & stage waste materials for disposal
  • Sort and dispose of waste materials shoreside as directed
  • Identify & record all hazmat & palletize by vessel
  • Work with Environmental Officers/Marine Engineers during offload
  • Be comfortable tying up alongside ships with heavy ropes/lines prior to beginning work.
  • Organizing & manifesting all waste/product offloaded by the vessel while in port.
