GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

Cake Decorator prepares and decorates baked goods, and cakes. Offers assistance to customers to meet the goals, and objectives of the department.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Must have a good attitude, friendly and courteous personality, and enjoy working with the public.
Knowledge of how to prepare various kinds of cake mixes and fillings.
Knowledge of various kinds of bakery equipment, tools, and supplies.
Knowledge of frostings and the use of various pastry bags, decorating tubes, colors and textures for preparation and decoration purposes.
Be familiar with the care and use of professional bakery equipment, tools and ovens.
Willingness to learn new recipes and techniques.
Must have basic computer skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able to count and perform simple math calculations.
Must be able to understand, speak, read and write basic English.
Must be able to understand, speak, read and write Spanish.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must exhibit a responsible, professional, and positive attitude towards the job.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
Must be able to transfer to other locations within a reasonable commute of home store.
Must have at least 2 years of decorating experience or equivalent experience with Vallarta Supermarkets.
Must be able to document ability to legally work in the US.

Responsibilities
  1. Smile and greet all customers while providing extraordinary customer service.
  2. Aggressively merchandise product, keep cases full, rotate and stock as needed according to Company procedures and guidelines.
  3. Assists customers with special bakery and cake orders in store or over the phone.
  4. Ensures cakes are made accurately according to customer’s order.
  5. Prepares and decorates baked goods and cakes as needed for sale or special requests by customers.
  6. Be aware of oven and proofer temperatures and communicate any temperature failures to bakery manager.
  7. Communicate, to cake decorator lead and/or bakery manager, product inventory level, ingredients, supplies, and baked goods are needed, to ensure adequate product for customers.
  8. Control department expenses; take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses.
  9. Ensures all bakery products are prepared with consistency in quality, appearance, and weight according to Vallarta Supermarkets guidelines.
  10. Ensures favorable department image with customer through a clean, attractive and friendly department.
  11. Establishes baking time settings on ovens ensuring that baked good are removed from ovens when done, and removed for next process.
  12. Follow Company price book unless directed otherwise by bakery manager, department supervisor, or corporate office.
  13. Assists in maintaining display cases, and countertops clean, organized and presentable.
  14. Accurately prepares merchandise for sale (pack, weigh, and price) adhering to company policy.
  15. Promote sales by suggestive selling.
  16. Transports products to and from coolers and storage areas.
  17. Clean work area; sweep and mop floors, wash bakery equipment, supplies and utensils.
  18. Communicate unsafe acts by team members, unsafe conditions, or unsafe equipment immediately to bakery manager.
  19. Order accurately from approved vendors and take accurate inventory to provide the best product availability.
  20. Follow all health code regulations; ensure the highest standards of food safety, personal hygiene, and sanitation are followed and practiced according to health department regulations.
  21. Follow and practice Bakery Safety Program on the proper levels to use of approved cleaning chemicals.
  22. Follow and promote Company safety policies, ensure that team members are using bakery equipment safely.
  23. Report team member injuries and/or team member complaints of misconduct to bakery manager, store director, or department supervisor.
  24. Work safely and be aware of co-workers and customer safety at all times.
  25. Abide by all store rules, and Company policies as stated in Company’s Team member Handbook.
  26. Contact your bakery manager, store director or bakery supervisor regarding any questions, problems, and concerns.
  27. Keep key personnel advised of whereabouts at all times.
  28. Take rest breaks and meal periods as assigned and in accordance to Company policy.
  29. Treat co-workers and customers respectfully at all times. Do not use obscene and/or profane language while working.
  30. Work as a team member, assist and train coworkers when needed.
  31. Other duties as assigned.
