JOB DESCRIPTION

The Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Support Engineer is a new role within the recently established Threat & Information Security Team, which operates enhanced security tools (native to Microsoft Azure and third party), that have been enabled to address security gaps in Microsoft365 (M365).
In this role, you’ll manage the M365 optimised and enhanced security tools and continue to develop those that have been initiated, to increase Defence’s cyber resilience.

Defence Digital operates an organisation model in which every individual belongs to a Government Profession. The successful applicant will be posted into one of the defined Government Professions on Standard Terms of Reference for the grade. Defence Digital reserves the right to move individuals between roles, within their allocated profession, to meet the needs of the business and in support of agile resourcing. Whilst this is a Defence Digital post, the role will be working with the Royal Navy, based at the advertised location.
Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.
The post does not offer relocation expenses.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to support queries, managing support cases with third party suppliers.
  • Analyse performance data to identify opportunities for improvement. Review and update the service wrap (a group of services) process/documentation. Ensuring rule performance stays within acceptable limits.
  • Check the use of ‘handling instructions’ to identify abuse, raising incident reports when required.
  • Prepare metrics for weekly performance review. Identification, qualification, design and documentation of new DLP rules.
  • Develop and test new DLP rules, produce documentation to support new DLP rules and provide support for DLP queries.
  • Provide technical qualification/details for incident reporting processes and evaluate and improve existing rule performance.
  • Provide technical solutions to the evolving threat landscape, technical updates to the service wrap and technical metrics for performance review.
