JOB SUMMARY
The Cyber Defence & Risk (CyDR) team plays an integral role in protecting the UK against external and internal cyber security threats to ensure that our Armed Forces have the strong cyber defences they need. We are responsible for enabling Defence operations and capabilities, providing specialist cyber security services across UK Defence (including industry) and working our international allies.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Cyber Defence and Risk (CyDR) Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Support Engineer is a new role within the recently established Threat & Information Security Team.
The DLP Support Engineer will manage the M365 optimised and enhanced security tools, that have been enabled to address fundamental security gaps and issues across Defence. The DLP Support Engineer will continue to develop the tools that have been initiated, to increase Defences cyber resilience.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
This role may be suitable for someone with previous experience in data analysis, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Purview, IT Service management, information management, risk management and/or governance and data protection.
Previous experience or technical knowledge can help but we’re looking for the core skills and the motivation and ability to learn, so we can support your continuous development in the role. We’ll provide opportunities to maintain or gain industry qualifications, certifications or memberships where required.
Ideally, you’ll also have the following skills:
- Experience in leading, supporting, coaching and mentoring colleagues.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Great organisation, timekeeping and prioritisation skills.
- Able to keep calm under pressure and use your initiative and analytical skills.
- Personable, task focused and able to build relationships with the core team and wider colleagues.
- A passion for security and technology and identifying and solving problems.

- Ability to work in a fast pace, demanding environment.
- Microsoft Certified Fundamentals or Microsoft Certified Associate or equivalent experience would be beneficial but not essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Support wrap (a group of services), service metrics and rule optimisation:
- Responding to support queries. Managing support cases with third party suppliers.
- Analysing performance data to identify opportunities for improvement. Review and update of the service wrap process/documentation. Ensuring rule performance stays within acceptable limits.
- Checking the use of ‘handling instructions’ to identify abuse, raising of incident reports when required.
- Preparing metrics for weekly performance review. Identification, qualification, design and documentation of new DLP rules.
Develop, test and document DLP rules and optimise performance:
- Develop and test new DLP rules, documentation to support new DLP rules and providing support for DLP support queries.
- Providing technical qualification/details for incident reporting process as required by support. Evaluating and improving existing rule performance.
- Provide technical solutions to the evolving threat landscape, technical updates to the support wrap and technical metrics for performance review.
