JOB SUMMARY

This position reflects the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) prioritisation of health and wellbeing for its people. The Band 8A Defence Registered Dietitian (Def RD) is the Practice Lead Advisor in Dietetics and Nutrition, leading the support and coordination of the delivery of dietetic and nutrition advice and guidance across Defence.
This position is advertised as a job share of 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Def RD supports and assures best practice weight management lifestyle interventions in support of the Defence People Leadership Team policy area (e.g. Healthier Weight Policy), as well as signposting to specialist weight management services as required.
The Def RD also delivers nutrition-training and mentorship to Defence health professionals as part of the Defence Nutrition Advisory Service (DNAS), and specifically to Defence Health and Wellbeing Advisor (DHWA) trained health professionals and Physical Training Instructors (PTI). DHWA practitioners have received training to deliver nutrition advice and guidance to Service personnel but are not Registered as Dietitians or Nutritionists.
As well as supporting all areas detailed above, this post will have specific responsibility as the first point of call on nutrition and dietetics matters for clinicians working in Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Medical Centres, Primary Care Rehabilitation Facilities and Regional Rehabilitation Units. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate suitable knowledge and expertise to be the DPHC single point of contact for clinical subject matter expertise in dietetics and nutrition.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the job share partner to support the further development of dietetics, nutrition and health policy and practice within Defence through the provision of clinical outputs, dietetic and nutrition service delivery, as well as research, education and consultancy in dietetics and nutrition.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual capable of working both independently and within multidisciplinary teams. They will be able to demonstrate excellent teamwork and professional dietetic and nutrition knowledge and practice, within both clinical and community/non-clinical contexts. The individual will have experience of developing and delivering community lifestyle support and weight management initiatives, both face-to-face and in remote settings. Additional training, support and guidance will be provided. Conference attendance and research publication, where relevant to the organisation and tasked work outputs, is encouraged and supported. The successful candidate will be a Registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of an honours degree in dietetics or nutrition
A post-graduate qualification (to a minimum of Masters level) in public health, dietetics, nutrition, exercise science or allied areas directly relevant to the role.
