POSITION TITLE: Degree Compliance Specialist
COMPENSATION RANGE: 52,000.00 - 55,000.00 USD per year
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Professional Administrative
DEPARTMENT: Graduate School Office

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is the primary position on campus that interprets Graduate School policy and program requirements and approves exceptions to policy. This position is responsible for organizing and establishing work processes pertaining to program administration of student programs by interpreting rules, regulations and policies specific to graduate students and graduate education by independent decisions and in collaboration with the Dean/Associate Dean. This position negotiates issues not covered in written policy. This position is also responsible for managing graduate program procedures from application for admission (unclassified hours, doctoral candidacy, course waivers/substitutions) through time of program closure (graduation, expiration, or termination) and for providing quality control to student program administration.

40% - MONITOR COMPLETION OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS, INCLUDING:

  • Intermediate and periodic review of GPA, completion of admission provisions, adherence to the continuous registration policy, degree term limits.
  • Verify student records for graduation eligibility, resolve program discrepancies in cooperation with faculty advisors and students.
  • Process graduate student transfer credit, prior learning credit, and course waivers in adherence with policy.
  • Process or oversee processing of course substitutions.
  • Process and monitor Leave of Absence applications.
  • Communicate promptly with students and faculty.
  • Train, organize, and provide oversight for the work of the Degree Compliance Graduate Assistant(s).
  • Educate students and faculty on systems like Degree Works, Graduate School policies, important deadlines, and necessary forms.
  • Monitor registration for 699, 797, and 799 credits and communicate policy, where needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

The position requires at least a bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of experience in an educational setting, with higher education experience preferred. Computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, excellent oral and written communication skills (with the ability to write text), and capacity to learn new system platforms with training. The position will include training in Banner, Xtender, Insight, and InfoReady.
