What You'll Do: Greet and assist customers with friendly, attentive service at our deli counter Serve hot bar, cold case, and grab-and-go items with care and attention to portioning and presentation Slice meats and cheeses to order and prepare sandwiches and sides Maintain cleanliness, food safety, and sanitation standards in all areas Work cooperatively with other deli team members to support smooth, efficient operations What We’re Looking For: Friendly, team-oriented attitude and strong communication skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. Food service or retail experience is a plus—but we’re happy to train the right person! Evening and weekend availability is required Must be at least 18 years old Schedule & Hours: Part-time: Approximately 16–20 hours/week Includes evening and weekend shifts Flexibility to pick up additional shifts is a plus! Requirements Mandatory Qualifications: Must be 18+ Friendly disposition, excellent service and communication skills Able to be flexible to the changing needs of the business Regular, predictable attendance Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with POS systems Previous customer service and/or cash handling experience Familiarity with natural foods, grocery industry or cooperatives Physical Demands: Ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 30 pounds frequently; 30-50+ pounds occasionally Manual dexterity with ability to reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, and fingers for extended periods of time Mid-to-general range visual acuity to evaluate and interact in working environment and operate deli equipment for extended periods of time Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time Regular exposure to refrigerated/frozen and hot/humid environments Ability to climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and bend occasionally required Ability to be exposed to, work with, and directly handle dietary allergies including, but not limited to: gluten, wheat and flours; dairy and soy; meats and shellfish; peanuts and tree nuts Ability to work safely with sanitation supplies Reports To: Deli Supervisor Supervises: N/A Department, Status and Salary: Deli, Part-Time, Hourly (At Will) Valley Natural Foods Core Competencies Adaptability/Flexibility/Dependability Communication/Listening Skills Customer Service/Customer Focus Integrity/Ethics Sense of Urgency/Productivity Teamwork/Interpersonal Skills Work Environment/Safety/Job Knowledge Position Specific Competencies Product Knowledge The information above is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performance by people assigned to this work.
