About the role


We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Commi Chef to join the kitchen team at Hornsby RSL Club in Hornsby, NSW. This is a full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a dynamic hospitality environment. As a Commi Chef, you will work under the guidance of senior kitchen staff, contributing to the preparation and cooking of high-quality meals for our members and guests. This role is essential to maintaining the standards and reputation of our food service operations.

Key responsibilities


  • Prepare and cook food items in accordance with established recipes and quality standards
  • Assist senior chefs with meal preparation, including chopping, mixing, and cooking ingredients
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen, including regular sanitisation of workstations and equipment
  • Support the kitchen team in managing food inventory and stock rotation
  • Follow all food safety and health regulations to ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Assist with plating and presentation of dishes to meet the club's culinary standards
  • Respond promptly to requests from senior kitchen staff and work collaboratively as part of the team
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the kitchen during service periods


What we're looking for


  • A qualification in culinary arts, hospitality, or food preparation, or equivalent practical experience
  • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and food preparation methods
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations, including food handling certification where possible
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods
  • Flexibility with work schedules, including availability for shifts, weekends, and public holidays
