The Demi Chef is responsible for assisting the Chef de Partie in running an assigned kitchen section, ensuring high-quality food preparation, presentation, and consistency in line with the hotel’s standards. This role requires both culinary skill and leadership ability, as you will guide junior team members while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Previous experience as a Commis I or similar role in a high-quality kitchen.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and culinary techniques.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Passion for food preparation and a willingness to learn and innovate.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook, and present dishes according to standard recipes, portion sizes, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure the mise en place for your section is completed for service, banquets, and special functions.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety at all times.
  • Assist the Chef de Partie in supervising and guiding Commis Chefs and kitchen helpers.
  • Check and monitor the freshness, quality, and stock levels of ingredients in your section.
  • Work closely with the Chef de Partie to plan and implement new menu items and specials.
  • Minimize wastage and control food costs in your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is used safely, cleaned, and maintained properly.
  • Communicate effectively with the Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, and service teams during operations.
  • Assist in the training and development of junior kitchen staff.
  • Monitor the cooking process to ensure food items meet taste, texture, and presentation standards.
  • Support in receiving and inspecting deliveries, ensuring proper storage and stock rotation.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and maintain a hygienic workstation at all times.
  • Adapt to rotation across different kitchen sections as per management requirements.
  • Be flexible to assist other sections or departments during peak business periods.
