Description SUMMARY The Dental Assistant coordinator is responsible for making appointments, filing paperwork, and handling billing for the company. Additionally, the dental assistant coordinator would be responsible for greeting patients when they walk in the door and providing a warm, professional face for the office. To perform this job well, the dental assistant coordinator would need to possess strong interpersonal skills, have a professional appearance, and have basic skills with computers. Have knowledge of all agency, diocesan, state, and/or federal regulations. Other Duties & Responsibilities Be knowledgeable of sovereign immunity statutes and regulations. Comply with all DOH Volunteer Healthcare Professional Program (VHCPP) requirements. Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines. Comply with OSHA laws and safety guidelines. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Comply with state and Federal infection control standards in the dental office and operatory, including but not limited to: wearing protective barriers such as gloves, scrubs, and eyewear; disinfecting and sterilizing instruments and treatment areas; and disposing properly of contaminated or bio-hazardous waste/materials. Train dental volunteers. Supervise dental volunteers to ensure the proper operation of the clinic. Master electronic medical record (EMR) system; utilizing it for patient records, appointment scheduling, and reporting. Assist in dental procedures and treatments. Ensure review and completion of documentation, including but not limited to: accurate and current medical history, medical alerts, quality reports, and signed consent forms. Document/chart all dental procedures performed during each patient visit according to the dentist’s instructions and legal requirements. Welcome and escort patients in reception to and from the treatment areas. Schedule appointments and assist in appointment confirmation calls. Provide dental education and information to insure patient awareness of dental health and continuing treatment. Present dental treatment plan and proposed plan for continuing treatments to a patient in a professional and confidential manner. Recognize signs of a dental emergency and ensure proper and timely response and notification to patient, staff, and emergency medical personnel when necessary. Effectively utilize and maintain a system of contact for patient follow-up/re-care. Order dental supplies as needed and within budget guidelines. Ensure operatories are appropriately equipped and stocked with inventory. Maintain equipment protocols, including but not limited to: clean evacuation system, lubricate and maintain dental handpieces, clean and maintain radiograph processors, monitor and clean equipment, clean dental lab plaster traps, and maintain clean office environment. Notify Clinic Manager of equipment failure or general safety concerns. Schedule dental equipment repair as needed. Be present during repairs. Participate in the evaluation of clinic operations including outcome measurement. Represent clinic and Catholic Charities appropriately and accurately in interactions with patients, volunteers, staff, community organizations, funders, parish leaders/staff, and other stakeholders. Participate in agency accreditation efforts. Attend staff and/or agency Other duties as assigned. Requirements EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE The Dental Assistant must be a registered or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) license, according to state guidelines and limitations. Radiography licensure. The Dental Assistant must have a minimum of 1 year of dental experience required. Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a high-volume environment. Must retain license and demonstrate proficiency to perform expanded dental assistant functions. Must have Radiography Certification upon hire. Other Skills and Abilities: Strong attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills. Inquisitive, eager to learn, self–starter. Strong analytical skills. Strong sense of ownership & urgency. Able to complete work independently while functioning in a team setting. Spanish language is preferred but not required.
