Description SUMMARY: The Dental Hygienist reports directly to the Director of Oral Health. The Dental Hygienist performs preventive and clinical procedures through provisions allowed by the Massachusetts Dental Hygiene Association. The Dental Hygienist provides oral prophylaxis, scaling and root planning and oral hygiene instructions. Places sealants, examines and charts periodontal conditions. This position performs oral cancer screenings and reviews patient’s medical history. GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: · Conducts periodontal, oral health and oral cancer screenings · Performs prophylaxis, fluoride treatment , scaling and root planning, and polishing procedures, and takes radiographs · Carries out oral hygiene instructions. · Completes sealants, fluoride varnishes, radiographs procedures · Sharpens and monitors the integrity of periodontal instruments · Maintains, stocks and organizes their own designated room · Participates in outreach program · Assists with the sterilization of instruments and general disinfection of dental operatory · Maintains proper paper and electronic documentation · Flexibility to work on Saturdays however every Saturday is not required Requirements REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: · High school diploma. · Graduate from an accredited hygiene school · Completion of state board examination. · Certification in the State of Massachusetts. · Maintain current BLS certificate. SUBSTITUTION: A limited license dentist certification will be accepted in lieu of a certificate from an accredited hygiene school
