Description
Purpose: Under the supervision of a dentist, the Dental Hygienist performs prophylactic and therapeutic services and conducts client education to prevent and control dental disease. Responsibilities: Performs supply inventories. Is accountable and adaptable to all Clinic safety procedures, continuing education requirements, operational procedures, corporate compliance requirements, occupational exposure policies, disaster plan, infection control policies, and regulatory requirements. Demonstrates appropriate precautions for blood/body fluid exposure. Demonstrates understanding of age-specific needs of the dental client population. Takes and develops radiographs Shares responsibilities with the dental assistant for the proper cleaning, packing, and storage of supplies and instruments. Assists in the supervision of dental hygiene students. Demonstrates commitment to and enthusiasm for goals and standards of care. Responds appropriately to emergencies (i.e., cardiac arrest, fire drills, etc.) Performs other similar and related duties as assigned by the Coordinator or as needed by the Clinic. Cleans and cares for teeth within the scope of dental standards of care, including polishing, scaling, and root planning. Provides oral health education. May perform other approved dental care and preventive treatments, such as topical application of fluoride and dental sealants. Advises patients on proper home care and treatment of teeth and gum tissues. Maintains accurate records of services performed; communicates appropriate and precise information to the health care team. Offers suggestions to improve work methods or procedures. Participates in Quality Improvement Process. Performs care/services with respect for the patient's dignity, privacy, individuality, and rights. Assists the dentist in the organization and implementation of clinic procedures and systems. Assists dentists, dental assistants, and expanded function dental assistants when needed. Must meet the Hospital's requirements as to general qualifications, and possess a degree from an accredited Dental Hygienist Program. Must have a Pennsylvania State Board of Examiners License. Must know dental equipment. Must know dental terminology. Must be able to plan and prioritize work. Must be able to communicate in a concise and friendly manner in dealing with patients and office staff. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Dental Hygienist The schedule is a Full-time Day shift, Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. No weekends and no holidays. No hospital coverage.
