Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments, to promote optimal oral health. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, taking vital signs, and evaluating periodontal status. Assist dentists during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort. Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while adhering to strict infection control and aseptic techniques. Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to foster long-term oral health habits. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding for billing purposes using medical coding standards. Monitor infection control protocols diligently to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Collaborate with team members to coordinate patient care plans within general dentistry and pediatric dentistry specialties as needed. Stay current with advancements in dental terminology, medical terminology, and industry best practices through ongoing education. Requirements Skills Proficiency in using dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and record keeping. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control procedures essential for safe practice. Experience with pediatric dentistry procedures and working with pediatric patients is highly desirable. Expertise in chairside assisting techniques including medical imaging, vital signs measurement, and aseptic technique implementation. Familiarity with medical records management, HIPAA compliance standards, and medical coding practices related to dental services. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse patient populations. Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to dental assessments and treatment planning. Ability to work efficiently within a team environment while maintaining high standards of professionalism. Prior experience in dental office or clinic settings demonstrating adaptability in fast-paced environments.
