Main Duties of the Orthodontic Therapist
Communication & Relationship Skills
Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and staff across all levels.
Explain complex treatment plans and sensitive information with tact.
Promote a positive learning environment and support staff development.
Maintain patient confidentiality and liaise across departments.
Clinical & Analytical Responsibilities
Perform advanced orthodontic procedures under consultant supervision.
Assess and respond to patients’ complex needs, including emergencies.
Evaluate oral health and discuss treatment risks, benefits, and cooperation requirements.
Contribute to clinical decision-making and care planning.
Support internal audits and clinical governance activities.
Planning & Organisational Skills
Prioritise workload and adapt plans as needed.
Collect and record clinical data accurately.
Contribute to service development and education initiatives.
Supervise others and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Physical Skills
Demonstrate high levels of manual dexterity and precision.
Maintain focus and concentration during procedures.
Provide reassurance to anxious patients.
Responsibility for Patient Care
Deliver orthodontic treatment and specialist advice.
Develop evidence-based care models to enhance patient experience.
Conduct risk assessments and respond to emergencies.
Collaborate with consultants to tailor holistic care plans.
