Description JOB SUMMARY: The Dentist provides comprehensive dental services to individuals residing in an emergency shelter, many of whom are experiencing homelessness, complex medical conditions, behavioral health challenges, and/or substance use disorders. The Dentist delivers trauma-informed, patient-centered care with exceptional bedside manner, cultural humility, and sensitivity to vulnerable populations. This position ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those established by the Florida Board of Dentistry and the Florida Department of Health. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Perform comprehensive oral examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning in accordance with current standards of care and Florida statutes. 2. Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries and malformation of the teeth and oral cavity. 3. Perform dental procedures, examinations, debridement, restorations and extractions and pain management as appropriate. 4. Prescribe medications in compliance with Florida prescribing laws, including controlled substance regulations and participation in the Florida Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP/E-FORCSE) as required. 5. Demonstrate exceptional bedside manner, patience, and de-escalation skills when serving individuals experiencing homelessness and crisis. 6. Maintains the highest quality medical care by cooperation and communication with other medical and non-medical personnel in the achievement of their responsibilities. 7. Provide appropriate referrals for specialty or advanced care when indicated. 8. Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant documentation in the electronic health record. 9. Adhere to OSHA standards, CDC infection control guidelines, and universal precautions. 10. Provide supervision or mentorship to dental assistants, hygienists, residents, or students, as applicable. 11. Adheres to safety practices and infection control policies and procedures, including universal precautions. 12. Maintain inventory control and ensure safe handling of dental materials and equipment. 13. Participate in peer review and quality assurance initiatives. 14. Adheres to patient rights and privacy, including the confidentiality of information, administrative policies and all applicable laws and regulations. WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates within an emergency shelter healthcare clinic serving individuals experiencing homelessness. The environment may involve exposure to communicable diseases, behavioral health crises, and high-acuity social needs. Adherence to infection control and safety protocols is required at all times. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Graduate of a college of Dental Medicine; Licensed as Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) or Licensed as a Doctor of Dental Medicine D.M.D.; and licensed in the State of Florida. Must be Board certified. Proficient in Microsoft Office with excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. Experience working in community health centers, FQHCs, public health settings, correctional facilities, or homeless service programs strongly preferred. Must be able pass a Level II background screening.
