Description Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital (TFH), is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. Our commitment is the same as it was more than 150 years ago: unrestricted healthcare to all who walk through our doors, regardless of immigration and insurance status, or the ability to pay. The Floating Hospital welcomes individuals of all ages, from infants, school age children (5+), youth and adults. TFH is a Federally Qualified Health Center and the largest provider to homeless families living in family shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs. Performs general dentistry, screening, and evaluation of children, adolescents, and adults. Diagnoses dental disease. Fills cavities. Performs prophylaxis. Instructs patients on oral hygiene. Performs root canals. Screens for oral cancer. Takes and interprets periapical X-rays. Applies sealants and stainless crowns. Makes referrals for treatment not provided at The Floating Hospital and for specialty consultations. Assists in and encourages patients to attend follow-up visits. Uses diagnostic data to make treatment decisions. Monitors the dental inventory. Oversees general maintenance of dental equipment. Maintains proper aseptic protocols as per OSHA and the Department of Health. Ensures proper disposal of bio-hazardous materials. Administrative Duties: Supervises dental assistant. Participates in case conferences. Assists in the development and implementation of dental quality improvement procedures. Prepares and makes presentations to staff on dental topics. Requirements Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from an accredited institution; New York State license; New York State registration; minimum two years’ experience in pediatric and adolescent dentistry; ability to speak Spanish or other languages a plus.
