The School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) is the largest school within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering with locations on the Tempe, Polytechnic and Online campuses. JOB DESCRIPTION:

The School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic professional for the position of Department HR Principal. Reporting to the Department HR Manager, this role will oversee a range of human resources functions within a large and complex academic and administrative environment. Key responsibilities include: payroll management, classification for both academic and non-academic staff, ensuring HR compliance and internal controls, managing student hiring processes, and overseeing Graduate student recruitment efforts.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in Higher Education
  • Experience working with Workday and Analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, with a strategic mindset and strong initiative: Capable of analyzing complex situations and applying critical thinking to develop effective solutions.
  • Experience as a collaborative team member and independent contributor: Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong analytical skills: Proven experience in organizing, gathering, analyzing, and presenting data in various formats, including written, verbal, and electronic forms.
  • Evidence of proficiency in technology systems such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other relevant software applications.
  • Experience interpreting and applying institutional policies and procedures: In-depth understanding of ASU policies and the ability to effectively implement them within an HR context.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with SCAI Department HR Manager to develop and implement all unit HR activities to ensure adherence with School and University policies, practices and regulations.
  • Directly supervises and trains assigned staff. Leads and directs the HR Student Hiring team by assigning workload, reviewing processes, acting as liaison between team and Program Chairs.
  • Responsible for the payroll process of SCAI, resolves payroll discrepancies and works as a liaison between the unit and OHR to reach a solution when necessary.
  • Processes a heavy volume of payroll transactions for employees paid on multiple funding sources. Manage human resource and payroll quality control for unit.
  • Ensures maintenance of appropriate personnel records based on OHR, state and federal guidelines. Oversees and manages the response to internal and external audit requests and prepares audit documents for payroll reconciliations working collaboratively with the SCAI Business/HR team.
  • May advise and assist management and staff in the handling of employee relations issues, complaints and/or grievances and determination of appropriate actions.
