DESCRIPTION

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Department Manager for Reactor Technology Integration. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
This role will report directly to the Division Director for (Nuclear Reactor Technologies) NRT.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Master’s degree in nuclear science or engineering or related engineering field from an accredited institution and 5 years relevant experience
  • Relevant experience (Managing R&D reactor environments).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ leadership experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

DESIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD preferred
  • 5+ years’ of demonstrated leadership experience in reactor technology integration

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Responsibilities

DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Reactor Technology Integration department focuses on:
  • Develop a team of researchers and engineers that can perform integrated mulitphysics research, development and analysis supporting performance of reactor core, heat transport, shielding, primary and secondary loop, and balance of plant support performance of reactor core, heat transport, shielding, primary and secondary loop, and balance of plant.
  • Develop accomplished program managers who can manage and deliver complex first-of-a-kind reactor tests and prototype demonstration projects.
  • Applying tools and expertise to help the industry develop advanced reactor designs.
  • Recommending unique solutions to materials and fuels challenges for reactor hardware on earth and space.
  • Providing analysis and SME (Subject Matter Expert) support to the federal government and commercial companies.

MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Manager’s core duties include:
  • Formulating and communicating the department mission and vision in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Engaging in strong internal and external relationship management.
  • Providing management direction and driving business development.
  • Implementing departmental strategies aligned with the strategic plan, programmatic missions, and emerging opportunities.
  • Leading and growing an organization of scientists, engineers, technical, and support staff.
  • Provide professional development opportunities and provide performance management and staff feedback.
