Fairview has an exciting opportunity for an Infectious Diseases Diagnostics Laboratory (IDDL) Departmental supervisor at
M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This oversight includes the Molecular microbiology and virology sections. The supervisor will work collaboratively with the Laboratory leadership to achieve the vision for Fairview Laboratory services. The ideal applicant will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Microbiology/Virology testing.
IDDL performs over 900,000 Microbiology and Virology tests annually. We span the spectrum from manual reading of bacteriology cultures to state-of-the-art PCR testing. IDDL offers expertise in the following areas: Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, and Virology.
The Department Supervisor has direct responsibilities for the complete operation of a system laboratory. The responsibilities include oversight of operations including system regulatory compliance in their area of expertise, creation of system protocols and procedures, intradepartmental processes, departmental specific LIS build and processes, coordination and development of department specific quality programs, department specific implementation of new equipment, and ensuring provisioning of testing needs. The department supervisor is responsible for the supervision of employees in collaboration with laboratory managers/directors The department supervisor assures the provision of accurate testing which best meets the customer expectations in a cost-effective manner.

Essential Functions include:

  • Responsible for operations of a system laboratory
  • Provides daily supervision of the laboratory
  • Assumes responsibility for the technical operations of the laboratory
  • Assumes responsibility for HR management
  • Participates in planning and financial management for the laboratory
  • Evaluates testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention
  • Supervise laboratory activities in Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance programs
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Comply with all policies and standards

EDUCATION

  • Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes meeting qualifications as a general supervisor for high complexity testing as specified in CLIA ’88.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided); -OR-
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry (Transcript must be provided); -OR-
  • A transcript evaluation verifying equivalency to a U.S. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university (Equivalency verification documentation must be provided); -OR-
  • Completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course and a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry (Transcript must be provided); -OR-
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in molecular biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biology, cytology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, allied health, medical laboratory science, or an appropriately related field (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided).

EXPERIENCE

  • Candidates with baccalaureate or higher degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology must have 1 year of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing; -OR-
  • Candidates qualifying by baccalaureate degree and semester hours must have 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
