Description:
The Department of Theatre and Film at UWinnipeg produces and mounts productions and events which offer students an opportunity to gain practical experience in working at an entry level position in theatre or film. The Departmental Technician is a part-time (0-35 hours per week) sessional position that supports general Departmental operations, production labs, and rental activities.
Note: a sessional position is a continuing position which is subject to seasonal lay-off.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2 years completed in an undergraduate university degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution or in a Diploma program.
- Must have successfully completed THFM-3801-001.
- Additional experience may be accepted in lieu of specific training.
- Trained in use of theatre equipment, specifically lighting and sound.
- Technical expertise for basic repairs.
- Basic filing and office skills.
- PC Computer skills (Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, etc.).
- MAC Computer Skills (Qlab, Premiere, etc.).
- Ability to deal with suppliers in a professional manner.
- Ability to work with students in a lab setting.
- Ability to oversee part-time student staff effectively.
- Ability to work under general supervision.
- Ability to learn and acquire new skills efficiently.
- Ability to work competently with hand and some power tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities:
- Sets up and cleans labs, classrooms and equipment.
- Perform general maintenance to studio and/or lab equipment, making minor repairs as necessary.
- Perform scheduled upgrades and maintenance to specialized film and sound editing computers using previously established procedures.
- Operates specialized Theatre and Film equipment using standardized techniques and procedures.
- Identifies when supplies are depleted from inventory.
- Provide supervisor(s) with recommendations for purchases to replenish inventory of supplies.
- Assist in updating digital archives.
- Updating Departmental equipment catalogue inventory files and manuals.
