QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A good standard of education with a minimum of GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade A-C or equivalent
  • Understand the operation and application of a range of IT systems including Microsoft Office, RECY/MULCO (or other waste recycling software).
  • Good knowledge of metals, metal markets and recycling waste management regulations.
  • Knowledge of H&S issues with heavy plant & machinery
  • Experience of working in a busy environment with competing priorities & demands
  • WAMITAB or other waste related NVQ (training offered)

Responsibilities

PURPOSE:

Ensuring the smooth running of the depot on a day to day basis whilst improving operational effectiveness, managing overhead cost and utilising deployed resources to their full potential. Identify, secure, coordinate and supervise the safe, timely, profitable procurement of the waste streams.

SCOPE OF THE ROLE:

  • Managing health and safety and embedding a safe culture in an operational environment.
  • Comply with statutory Health & Safety duties, with particular reference to risk identification, risk assessment and risk participation.
  • Ensure that all operations of the depot are following Health & Safety, Environmental Agency and all other relevant regulations, licenses, company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • To ensure that operational requirements are met on a day to day basis and ensure that all recycled waste is prepared for disposal in accordance with environmental requirements, shipping regulations and company procedures.
  • Liaise with the transport and maintenance department for the purpose of ensuring all vehicle and plant maintenance/safety checks are adhered to.
  • Create an environment with continuous improvement at the forefront.
  • Meet clearly defined KPI’s and drive best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and productivity.
  • Monitor, manage and coordinate all depot resources.
  • Manage depot profit and loss.
  • Advise customers on the waste streams for the depot including costs/terms and conditions complying to site license permissions, and always maintaining a first-class customer service.
  • Forge external working relationships with suppliers and customers in the area designated.
  • Forge internal working relationships with other Managers/depots.
  • Maintain appropriate systems so that all operational and financial procedures are adhered to including the use of RECY and MULCO.
  • Ensure that a month end stock check is conducted, and the figures passed to the Financial Controller in accordance with stock control procedures.
  • Proactively identify new supply opportunities and collate and provide business intelligence on customers and competitors in the area and work alongside the Managing Director and Sales Manager.
  • Cover periods of absences at site and other deports as required.
  • Contract management: supervise, plan, organise and liaise with others to ensure all commercial, transport and administrative requirements are undertaken fully in a timely manner in compliance with any contractual obligations or as deemed appropriate.
  • Ensure associated customers, subcontractors and suppliers weighbridge transactions are entered, material grades are correct to assist Finance Department and QHSE Manager to compile accurate reports and waste returns.
  • To adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures at all times.
  • To represent the Company in a professional manner at all times.
  • To undertake or support other specific commercial projects as directed from time to time.
  • Liaising with the Human Resource Manager manage all direct reports staff to include training needs and development where everyone can excel.
  • To oversee general conduct, performance and welfare, taking action where necessary.
  • Development of effective methods of working and good working conditions
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives, and which deliver best practice results, added value and continuous improvement.
  • Guide, mentor, train and appraise employees for which responsible.
