As a key member of the Toronto Paramedic Services leadership team, the Deputy Chief will help to drive operational excellence and shape the future direction of Toronto Paramedic Services. Reporting to the Chief, the Deputy Chief leads with empathy, integrity, and innovation- we are looking for someone with a passion for leading and mentoring people, with a results-oriented nature.
The Deputy Chief position requires a collaborative, emotionally intelligent leader who successfully drives performance while genuinely caring for the people they support. You build trust quickly, communicate clearly, and are comfortable providing advice to Council and senior City leadership. As an expert change leader, you are not afraid to bring innovative, new ideas to the table and champion those ideas with City leadership and within your team.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Considerable successful senior management experience within emergency services or healthcare settings.
  • Considerable experience handling labour relations matters, leading and motivating a diverse, multi-functional workforce with a strong ability to foster teamwork, communicate a vision, engage team members, manage change and establish and operate in an environment that promotes excellence.
  • Considerable experience in providing strategic advice and communicating with senior management and political staff on sensitive and confidential issues including familiarity with municipal governance policies, issues, all relevant legislation, municipal programs and services.
  • Experience leading complex projects from inception through to implementation while balancing political, community and other stakeholder interests.
  • Considerable experience in initiating, leading and implementing proactive and progressive change in order to redesign and implement business processes, policies and strategies to facilitate improvements within critical timeframes.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of high performance paramedic services systems and the requirements of the Ambulance Act.
  • Highly developed human and public relations skills with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization, with various political levels and the community and develop effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial reporting processes, including budget control, forecasting and interpreting financial reports.
