The New York City Department of Probation (DOP) is seeking a visionary and experienced Deputy Commissioner of Information Technology (IT) to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the department’s IT operations and digital transformation initiatives. This senior executive role will be responsible for ensuring that DOP’s IT infrastructure, applications, and services effectively support public safety, operational efficiency, and equitable service delivery across a workforce of approximately 1,000 employees.
The Deputy Commissioner of IT will lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the agency’s IT strategies, working closely with executive leadership, agency stakeholders, and citywide IT partners to ensure systems are secure, resilient, and aligned with DOP’s mission and citywide IT standards. This individual will also oversee the implementation of technology solutions that are scalable, cost-effective, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.

PREFERRED SKILLS
Education: o A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is highly preferred. Experience: o At least 10 years of progressively responsible IT management experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing a large IT department in a government, public safety, or public sector environment. o Demonstrated experience leading complex IT initiatives, including network infrastructure, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and service management in a mission-critical environment. o Proven success in managing large-scale projects and interagency collaborations, particularly in the context of public safety or government technology services. Certifications: o CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), or equivalent security certifications required. o Additional certifications in IT project management (e.g., PMP), cloud technologies, or ITIL are highly desirable. Knowledge & Skills: o Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (CJIS, NIST, HIPAA, etc.), cloud technologies, and regulatory compliance. o Expertise in data governance, cloud service management, and IT risk management. o Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to manage and inspire diverse teams. o In-depth knowledge of government IT procurement processes, contract management, and vendor relationship management. o Ability to manage competing priorities, effectively allocate resources, and maintain high levels of service while driving innovation and operational efficiency.
