We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in Office for Advancement of Learning and Teaching (ALTO): Major Duties and Responsibilities The Deputy Director of ALTO supports the Director in providing strategic academic leadership and operational oversight across the Office's key functions. The appointee will be responsible for the following major duties: Support the integration of educational technologies with instructional design practices and contribute to the development of multimodal content; Assist in the development and implementation of AI-powered tools, platforms, and interactive learning materials, and help identify emerging AI opportunities for teaching staff and students; Support the University’s course development process and supervise the instructional design team in applying sound instructional design principles to produce high-quality audio-visual, multimedia, and online learning materials; Coordinate the design and production of online learning modules incorporating multimedia and blended learning strategies, and help apply survey data insights to enhance student learning experiences; Assist in centralising and analysing learning analytics related to teaching and learning, and in preparing evidence-based reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement across Schools; Contribute to the design and delivery of a comprehensive professional development plan for Schools on eLearning, new technologies, learning strategies, and evidence-based pedagogies, and help review effectiveness using participant feedback; Support the planning and delivery of Learning and Teaching Week and related events for teaching staff and new academic inductees, promoting a culture of excellence in teaching and learning; Assist in quality assurance and coordination of University TV programmes and specialised video series, helping to maintain established production standards; Provide day-to-day supervisory support to designated teams, including AI development teams, multimedia and educational technology teams, and other ALTO functional units, to ensure effective collaboration and delivery of agreed outcomes; and Deputise for the Director of ALTO as required, represent ALTO on relevant University committees and working groups as assigned, and carry out other duties as directed by the Director or senior management. Candidates Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence: A recognized bachelor's degree, preferably a higher degree in education, computer science, instructional design, educational technology, or a related discipline; At least 15 years' relevant post-qualification experience in higher education, with a proven record in managing teaching and learning initiatives, academic administration, and supervising multidisciplinary teams; A strong track record in educational technologies, including AI-powered applications, online learning and multimedia/ eLearning tools; Demonstrated competence in leadership, organization, project management, particularly in cross-unit technology-enabled teaching and learning projects; High level of adaptability and change management capability in driving digital transformation and pedagogical innovation in a complex higher education environment; and Excellent communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including academic staff, professional services units, and funding bodies.
