AlphaPlus is an education service business specialising in standards, assessment and certification. We help our clients design, develop, deploy and evaluate qualifications and their underpinning assessments. Our work spans the public and private sectors, schools, colleges, vocational and professional learning. We work in the UK and internationally. AlphaPlus is a member of the AQA group.
We are currently seeking a Deputy Director of Statistics to support the Director of Research in overseeing and managing AlphaPlus’ Statistics team. The postholder will possess excellent written and spoken communication skills and be inquisitive, with excellent analytical capabilities.

They will:

  • Be responsible for the delivery of AlphaPlus’ services to the highest standards
  • Deputise for the Director of Research as directed in leading the Statistics functions
  • Deputise for the Director of Research as directed in reporting to the board and contributing at board level to discussions on matters relating to the Statistics function
  • Provide suitable management information in respect of AlphaPlus Statistics work to the Board, thereby to facilitate the Board’s oversight of this aspect of the company’s operations
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of Statistics services to AlphaPlus clients from project implementation to project closure
  • Manage a range of projects (according to business needs) over the project lifecycle including supporting the production of bids for upcoming projects.

We are seeking candidates with:

  • Project management skills, for example APM, ILM and/or other methods and approaches
  • Master’s degree level or higher in a related area, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Commerciality: participating actively and willingly in activities to generate new business. Creative and innovative in approaching the winning of new work
  • Excellent team leadership skills.

Expert knowledge of the education sector in the UK or internationally, a successful track record working in the UK or overseas education sector, and in the delivery of assessments , together with a record of winning bids/tenders, would be useful, but are not essential.

The post is permanent, full-time working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and is Manchester office-based. The company offers hybrid working (two days per week minimum in the office, with three days working at home). A relocation package is available if appropriate.
The role will also involve national and occasional international travel, potentially including working in customer offices.
