KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position has the following responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic, pragmatic and solutions-based legal advice faced by the Department and its associated Ministerial portfolios
  • Identify and resolve issues referred to or emerging from DTF Legal’s work (including governance, policy, operational and other non-legal advice and analysis relevant to the Government, the public sector and public administration) that could affect DTF’s or its portfolio Ministers’ interests and positions
  • Develop candid relationships and negotiate effectively with other DTF groups, other departments and agencies, and work actively to achieve changes in policy and practice;
  • Represent DTF to Ministers, senior public officials and other stakeholders and interested parties with minimal or no guidance
  • Support the General Counsel with the leadership and management of the DTF OGC, including workload and resource allocation, staff management responsibilities and acting for the General Counsel as required
  • Undertake other tasks relevant to DTF Legal’s division, including corporate development and projects and organisational development initiatives to improve culture and performance

ABOUT THE ROLE

In DTF OGC you will, as a generalist lawyer, build on your fundamental legal skills by working across a variety of legal areas, while still having the opportunity to continue developing a specialisation in one of our key areas of focus. The breadth of work DTF OGC undertakes, with a range of stakeholders, ensures that a career in DTF OGC is interesting, challenging and fulfilling.
