OVERVIEW

The Deputy Head (Data Compliance) role will lead the development of frameworks and controls to ensure organisational compliance with data management policies, including personal data management. This role involves close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that data governance practices are aligned with overarching government and regulatory requirements and consistently applied across all operations, projects, and subsidiary entities. In addition, this role will be a key driver in strengthening governance measures, remediating gaps, and enhancing organisational competency in data compliance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Information Management/Technology/Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, government data policies, and industry best practices.
  • Proven track record in implementing data governance frameworks and compliance controls in large organisations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to identify risks and propose practical solutions.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Information Privacy Manager or Professional (CIPM/CIPP), or other data governance-related qualifications/certifications will be an advantage.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the establishment and refinement of frameworks, standards, guidelines, and SOPs for data management and compliance, ensuring alignment with MINDEF and Government regulations for DSTA and DSTA-owned private subsidiaries.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure data policies are current and effective.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements for data management processes and controls.
  • Strengthen governance and compliance in data management throughout the software development life cycle, project delivery, and organisational events, covering data acquisition, formatting, processing, storage, and disposal.
  • Engage and work closely with stakeholders, including project teams, to monitor data compliance and drive remediation efforts, with a focus on personal data management.
  • Support the Head (Data Management & Protection) in data governance, audits, and incident management activities.
  • Provide consultancy and coaching to Project Management Teams (PMTs) to develop and sustain competency in data compliance.
