Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.     Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.    We currently have an opportunity for a Deputy Integrated Project Manager in Canberra to work on Joint projects.       What You’ll Do      This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:    * Lead and oversee JP9101 project delivery, managing the Project Management & Support Team, ensuring integration across acquisition, transition and sustainment, and acting as IPM when required.  * Provide authoritative project oversight, including performance analysis, risk and opportunity management, EVM data quality, schedule assurance and alignment with ASDEFCON and CASG QMS.  * Drive governance and reporting, preparing briefs, dashboards and senior‑level updates for governance bodies, Division Heads and Defence stakeholders.  * Manage Commonwealth–contractor integration, resolving scheduling, performance and delivery issues while coordinating closely with Project Controller, Scheduler and engineering teams.  * Lead people and resources, providing direction, mentoring and professional oversight to project staff while ensuring effective stewardship of Commonwealth resources and continuous improvement.    What You’ll Bring    * Demonstrated Defence acquisition project experience, managing programs of similar scale, complexity and governance requirements.  * Strong leadership capability, able to guide multidisciplinary teams while maintaining disciplined project management frameworks and baselines.  * Deep understanding of CASG governance, ASDEFCON contracting frameworks and Defence capability development processes.  * High competence in planning, risk management, schedule oversight and performance reporting, ensuring accuracy and informed decision‑making.  * Excellent communication and stakeholder influence skills, including preparing high‑quality briefs for senior Defence leaders and resolving competing priorities effectively.    Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
