WHAT WE DO
Open Door is a community and arts space on Berkhamsted Hight Street accessible to all, with a donations only café at it’s heart. We offer a wide range of activities, from workshops and exhibitions, community food and gardening projects, to volunteering opportunities.
Helping tackle social inequality and isolation is at the heart of what we do. Our funding comes from a mix of grants, donations and revenue generation from our activities.

2. The Deputy Manager Role
We are looking for a calm, confident and organised Deputy Manager to support our General Manager and Volunteers in the daily running of the Open Door community space and café.
3. Key Responsibilities
· Open and close the building each day and prepare the rooms for various activites.
· Manage the day-to-day operation of the space and the volunteers on duty.
· Ensure allergen, food safety and Health & Safety guidelines are adhered to; take responsibility for all aspects of Health & Safety to ensure a safe working environment for customers, staff and volunteers.
· Prepare drinks and items from our small menu ( soup, toasted sandwiches) only when there is insufficient volunteer cover.
· Maintain a clean working environment ensuring all staff and volunteers follow the relevant hygiene guidelines.
· Manage all aspects of the Community Pantry
· Record takings, cash up and train volunteers to record transactions correctly.
· Induct volunteers and liaise with the relevant staff to ensure training records are kept up to date; use the BrightHR system where appropriate.
· Interview new volunteers in line with the Open Door’s safer recruitment procedures.
· Train volunteers and staff on Operational, Policy, and Health & Safety matters
· Provide operational support for our Repair Café (1st Saturday of each month).
· Be the first point of contact for all customers, knowing where to route any queries or where to signpost to local services.
· Be familiar with the various exhibitions, products on sale and all activities and events.
· Provide cover for General Manager (holidays and unexpected leave)

5. Is this you?
We are looking for someone who is comfortable communicating with a wide variety of people and who has a calm and confident manner. You will ideally have experience working for a charity, or in the public sector and you will be confident managing volunteers and staff.
