Description
Description Independent Orthopedic Practice | Flagstaff, Arizona | Full-Time | On-site | Salary: DOE About the Practice We are a long-standing, independent orthopedic surgery practice in Flagstaff, Arizona, supporting high-performing surgeons and multidisciplinary clinical teams. Our organization values operational excellence, accountability, and a strong internal culture built over many years. The Opportunity As our practice continues to grow in complexity, we are seeking a Deputy Operations Manager to work directly with the Chief Operations Officer to serve as an operational buffer, thought partner, and execution leader — absorbing operational detail while learning the organization deeply and steadily assuming broader ownership over time. Our Chief Operations Officer is deeply embedded in the organization and provides the highest value through strategic oversight, physician alignment, and complex problem-solving. However, the volume of finer operational details, follow-ups, and cross-departmental issues can dilute that impact. The right candidate is someone ready to turn their career up several notches, is motivated by responsibility, and has the grit to operate in a demanding, fast-paced orthopedic environment. This is a hands-on, high-responsibility role for someone who thrives in complex medical environments and wants meaningful influence over how an organization operates. They have the potential to step into a senior operations leadership role over time. There will be a 90-day onboarding plan included in this role which will set success markers and goals for learning, building trust, executing, and ultimately leading core operations at FBJ. Key Responsibilities Partner closely with the COO to manage daily operational execution across clinic, surgery, and ancillary services Take ownership of operational follow-through, issue resolution, and cross-department coordination Serve as a primary point of contact for department leaders on operational matters Build trust within long-standing teams and departments before implementing improvements Help standardize workflows, improve accountability, and reduce operational bottlenecks Navigate strong orthopedic surgeon personalities with professionalism and clarity Represent the COO in meetings and decision-making as appropriate Requirements Who We’re Looking For 7-10+ years of healthcare experience Experience with surgeon-led or physician-owned environments is strongly preferred 2-3+ years of experience managing managers and holding peers accountable Experience implementing operational improvements (workflows, access, staffing models, throughput) Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence and comfort partnering with senior leaders and physician stakeholders Interest in long-term growth within the organization Highly organized, detail-oriented, and execution-focused Willing to work hard and take ownership in a demanding environment Motivated by responsibility, growth, and long-term impact This role is best suited for a versatile problem-solver who prioritizes operational agility, organizational impact and adaptability over a traditional, set schedule. The role requires some early/late meetings as needed. We value sustainable, high-accountability leadership. What We Offer Direct partnership with the Chief Operations Officer Meaningful influence over daily operations and organizational effectiveness Competitive compensation (commensurate with experience, see additional details below) A stable, independent practice environment Opportunity to grow in responsibility as the role evolves Why This Role Is Different This is not a narrow administrative position. It is an opportunity to: Operate at the center of a complex medical organization Reduce friction, improve execution, and strengthen systems Learn high-level operational leadership through close collaboration Make a visible, lasting impact within a respected orthopedic practice FBJ offers the following BENEFIT PROGRAMS: Medical Insurance – Blue Cross Blue Shield of AZ Health Savings Account (H.S.A.)
