Opening Date December 14, 2025 Closing Date December 22, 2025 Job Requisition Number JR100143 DEPUTY PUBLIC DEFENDER Chief of Trial Division (Open Date: 12/14/2025) Pay Grade U00843 A Classification Deputy Public Defender Class Definition To act as technical advisor and legal expert to individuals referred to the Office of the Public Defender; to act as technical advisor and legal expert to other Assistant Public Defenders; to act as technical advisor and legal expert on behalf of the Office of the Public Defender before all State Courts, to provide intake interviews and financial eligibility determinations as appropriate, to assist the Director of Training in developing training program for staff in their units and to provide ongoing training. Supplemental Information To assist the Public Defender in planning, coordinating, implementing, and controlling the functions of the various divisions in the Department of the Public Defender by performing responsible administrative and supervisory work. To serve as the Public Defender in the absence or inability of the Public Defender to discharge the powers and duties of the office. To litigate cases as required before all the courts of the State and to represent the assistant public defenders before the courts on matters arising out of their conduct relating to their employment To do related work as required.
