Knowledge of the English language is required for this role as the position described in this posting requires the candidate to communicate every day with a virtual team outside Quebec as well as communicate with different members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Naval Programs team spans across Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin)’s main project sites (Kanata, Montreal, Dartmouth), opportunities are available at all sites for supporting Naval Combat Systems Programs and Proposal Capture activities.
The candidate will participate as the Communications (Comms) Team Deputy and as Technical Lead for the Systems Engineering (SE) of the Comms Systems naval development team in a multi-disciplined team environment. The candidate will be working on the total engineering life cycle from specification, design, development, integration and test, deployment, maintenance and field trouble shooting for their responsible Subsystem within the large scale high complexity naval platform systems.

The candidate will become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and responsible SE member for Communication Information Systems (CIS) subsystems and will participate in engineering activities including but not limited to:

  • Leading system and platform integration activities for shipboard CIS, including interface design
  • Collaborating with customers, ship design team, subcontractors and other stakeholders to identify and resolve integration and installation issues encountered during CIS design development
  • Leading the planning and coordination of the Comms Team tasking assignments
  • Being a Leader of and participating in requirements compliance assessments, and planning/coordinating requirements verification activities during design and implementation phases
  • Overseeing the Comms Team’s maintenance of System Architecture and Design
  • Conducting/coordinating reviews of technical data related to the CIS design, arrangements, installation, and verification activities; providing comments; and recommending acceptance/rejection of document deliveries
  • Reviewing and providing input to design documentation and deliverables including change proposals, white papers, and design reviews
  • Coordinating the implementation of approved changes
  • Following systems engineering processes and best practices
  • Maintain technical specifications and statements of work requirements.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Software, Hardware (HW), systems, mechanical, electrical or electronics engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience with CIS
  • Equivalent experience/combined education will be considered
  • Experience with SW, Systems, HW or Maintenance engineering lifecycles is an asset
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Aptitude for solving challenging problems in a team environment
  • Have a high degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS DESIRED FOR THE ROLE

  • Experience with Military Naval domain
  • Experience with Naval Communication Systems, Infrastructure and IT
  • Familiarity with Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), Cameo Systems Modeler, Jira, and Windchill is an asset
  • Experience with Agile methods an asset
  • Experience with Change Management (CM), Requirements Management, Test and Trials (T&T), Security, Safety, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) or Environmental Qualification is an asset.
