Description
The Opportunity In just under two years, the Youth Team @ Strategic Victory Fund has incubated and scaled programming reaching young voters that has: Had an in-person footprint on over 150 campuses in battleground states Hired and trained nearly 200 full-time staffers and 1,800 part-time student staffers Developed over 100 student-focused social media accounts Reached nearly 6 million voters online, over 300m times The Student Turnout Projects is our flagship operation – a cohort of state-based organizations working to organize college campuses with scrappiness and creativity. The Deputy Director, Data + Technology will be accountable for the success of the STP 2026 data program, including developing national systems for data and reporting and supporting data directors in each of our states. As we look to 2026, we’re continuing to support and evolve programming with our existing partners, while continuing to innovate and incubate new programming that will drive record Gen-Z turnout in 2026 and 2028 elections. The Role: The Student Turnout Project seeks a Deputy Director to lead the design of our data program and provide data support to our state teams as they work to engage young people, especially on college campuses. In this role, you would: Design, write, and execute the Student Turnout Projects’ data program in partnership with state teams, including: Hiring, managing, and training as needed Developing data best practices, documentation, and training materials Designing and building reporting procedures and automated reports Operating as a desk for in-state staff as needed Build close relationships with STP State Directors and their data staff, and provide training and coaching on setting and executing program goals, data practices, targeting, and effective use of reporting Evaluate and lead implementation of tech tools that improve program impact and staff efficiency Lead efforts to track and evaluate program impact throughout and after the election cycle Perform ongoing research and program analysis to improve targeting, reduce data workload for staff, expand impact, and identify improvements and innovations to campus programs Ideal candidates will: Have at least two cycles of experience in a data role at a political campaign or at a progressive organization, ideally with experience in campus data (If you don’t have experience with campus data, you should have a love of fun edge cases and creative problem solving) Have experience using VAN/Votebuilder as an administrator. Experience with Blocks is not required, but is a plus Be proficient in relevant software and programming languages, such as Excel, Google Suite, SQL, Javascript/Python/R, REST APIs, GIS tools, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Looker. (Extensive experience with *all* of these specific tools/languages is less important than general technical fluency and a willingness to learn) Have experience with tool and vendor integrations, and setting up data pipelines between various platforms Have experience designing and leading trainings for both technical and non-technical staff, and be adept at explaining technical concepts to non-technical staff Have knowledge and/or relationships with c3 and c4 infrastructure groups and of the progressive data ecosystem as a whole Be excited to coach staff on technical and data skills. Be equally comfortable guiding inexperienced staffers through the basics and helping more experienced staffers level up their skills Have experience working cross-departmentally and navigating relationships between state programs and national teams Believe in the value of state-based leadership Travel This role will likely involve a moderate level of travel to spend time with our in-state partners, about 10-20% of the time. Location New York City or Washington, DC preferred. Exceptional candidates that are remote will be considered. Salary The salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000. To apply, submit a cover letter and resume. The cover letter should be concise, compelling, and outline the specific ways in which you would be a good fit for this position.
