Deputy Treasurer

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Monash are looking for an experienced and strategic Deputy Treasurer to join the Treasury and Investments team, within the within the Chief Financial Officer and Office of the Senior Vice-President Finance.
This is a strategic leadership position where you will oversee the development, implementation, and management of Monash’s treasury function, ensuring effective stewardship of financial resources, including liquidity management, currency and interest rate hedging, short and long-term investments, debt portfolio, and financial risk mitigation.
You will manage a team of Treasury professionals and will drive a transformation of the treasury function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the treasury function, ensuring performance aligns with university policies and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the transformation and modernisation of the treasury function, including the implementation of new treasury systems, integration of treasury systems into the ERP, and other process improvements.
  • Support the Treasurer with the management of the debt portfolio, including long-term debt strategy, investor updates, and debt refinancing.
  • Maximize investment returns and manage risk in the university’s short and long-term investment portfolios through effective strategy development and execution, governance, management, and control.
  • Champion the integration of ESG principles across investment and debt activities, ensuring alignment with the university’s sustainability goals.
  • Identify, monitor, and be accountable for financial risks across the debt and investment portfolios, including liquidity, interest rate, foreign exchange, credit, and market risks.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on portfolio performance, ESG initiatives, liquidity, and debt management to key stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership direction and support, coaching, and mentoring to immediate staff members and other relevant parties engaged in transaction structuring and implementation.
  • Initiate, lead, and develop strong partnerships with other relevant business units, functional areas, and key senior staff, including the provision of expert treasury advice.
