JOB SUMMARY:

As the Deputy Unit Manager, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for the warehouse & transport operations at Gate Gourmet Bristol. In the role you will be responsible for planning and coordinating the warehousing, pick & pack operations, catering and transportation so that catering uplifts and associated products reach their destinations safely, on time and in a cost-effective manner ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards. Working with customer schedules, you will plan and schedule resources to ensure customer OTP targets are routinely satisfied effectively managing the team and deputising in the absence of the General Manager.
You will ensure all teams are aware of their responsibilities in respect of food safety, health and safety and security in the workplace and have the minimum qualifications and training to work in their respective roles. You will be accountable for employee rosters, holiday planning and resource planning as well as coordinating staff induction, training and development. You will be engaging and inspirational to the team and be able to communicate effectively across all shift patterns of the 24-hour, 7 day a week operation. You will also be accountable to manage staff performance. Act as a liaison with airport authorities and customers on operations and other requirements. Compile performance reports for the business and customers as well as investigate and respond as required to customer complaints.
Overseeing the transport section, you will ensure vehicle maintenance schedules and MOTs are planned and adhered to. You will also ensure that all equipment is working safely and compliant with manufacturers guidelines for operation and reporting and managing rectification of any failures. In this role you will be required to undertake regular audits of all areas to ensure adherence to company compliance expectations.
As an active member of the management team, you will attend team meetings as required and contribute to the development and growth of the business through the sharing of good practice and your own experiences as well as attend all necessary training programmes to develop your own potential and enable your progress in the company.

EDUCATION:

  • A foundation degree, HND or degree in a relevant subject, Logistics, supply chain management, transport management, business management or suitable relevant experience and demonstrated appropriate level of acumen.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant management experience working within the manufacturing, warehousing, transport or logistics industry.
  • Category C license is strongly desirable to be able support the airside operation in exceptional circumstances and gain a working knowledge of airside operations.
  • Previous experience in managing small teams across a 24/7 roster

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must demonstrate integrity, confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to work efficiently using own initiative to resolve issues
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) desirable
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English,
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales, prioritising as appropriate
  • Proactive and positive/flexible attitude
