Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Position Summary The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is a key senior leadership position at our institution. This is a permanent, full-time role established to provide academic, intellectual, and strategic leadership that shapes and advances our mission and long-term growth. The DVC (Academic) will ensure—through the leadership of our three Deans (Education, Continuous Professional Learning, and Research)—that the institution's research, learning, and professional development outputs are academically rigorous, socially relevant, and regionally transformative. The role is responsible for the leadership and oversight of all academic affairs, including academic planning, curriculum development, faculty affairs, teaching and learning quality, research development, accreditation requirements, and institutional partnerships. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the DVC (Academic) works collaboratively with senior administrators and academic leaders to drive and implement the institution's strategic vision and academic plan. The successful candidate will be an established, dynamic academic leader with a strong track record in research, scholarship, and policy development, coupled with a deep understanding of teacher education, school improvement, and educational transformation. Key Responsibilities include: Strategic Academic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of the institution’s academic strategy, ensuring alignment with overall institutional goals in collaboration with the Executive team. Plan sustainable new programs aligned with the vision and mission. Create foundations for growth and diversification through new initiatives, courses, and relationships. Leadership of the Senior Academic Team: Provide line management and leadership for the Deans of Education, Continuous Professional Learning, and Research. Academic Planning and Quality: Oversee academic planning processes, including curriculum development, program review, assessment of learning outcomes, accreditation, and the institution's research performance and strategy. Faculty Affairs: Lead faculty workforce planning, recruitment, development, and performance, and foster a supportive and inclusive academic environment. Teaching and Learning: Promote excellence in teaching and learning practices, support faculty in pedagogical innovation, and ensure a high-quality student learning experience. Academic Policies and Procedures: Develop and implement academic policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, and an excellent student experience across the institution. Accreditation and Quality Assurance: Monitor academic accreditation and quality assurance processes. Research and Scholarship: Promote a vibrant research culture, supporting and mentoring faculty in their research endeavours. Budget Management: Manage the academic budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to support academic priorities. Representation and Advocacy: Represent the institution’s academic interests in internal and external forums, advocating for academic excellence and innovation. Requirements Key Skills and Qualifications: Senior Academic Leadership Experience: Significant experience in a senior academic leadership role, such as Dean or Head of Faculty/School. Proven Academic Credentials: A strong academic record in teaching, research, and scholarship. Strategic Thinking and Planning: Ability to develop and implement strategic academic plans, aligning academic priorities with institutional goals. Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, and administrators. Knowledge of Higher Education Policy and Practice: A thorough understanding of higher education policies, regulations, best practices, and contemporary research and practice in teacher education.
