The C-17 Development Hardware team is currently looking for a Lead or Senior-Level Design and Analysis Engineer to join their team in Long Beach, CA. This organization supports Boeing’s C-17 Program, the world’s premier military airlift capability.
We are looking for an experienced Mission Computer Subsystem and Hardware Design Engineer. This position will include support for the entire product lifecycle; including requirements analysis, systems design, lab design/specification, integration testing, flight test, technical sub-contractor management, field support and customer interactions.
As a team member, you will integrate and coordinate hardware and software development tasks for a project development lifecycle across internal groups and suppliers. This role is the Engineering focal for the production and field sustainment of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and their associated equipment. You will be responsible for meeting the overall LRU technical performance, quality cost and on-time delivery of product and services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, physics, mathematics or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • 9+ years of experience with Hardware and LRU development, test and qualification.
  • Knowledgeable in subsystem design, requirement allocation and technical supplier management.
  • Critical analysis and problem-solving skills across system, hardware and software architectures.
  • Practical experience with lab equipment for hardware development, troubleshooting and data capture.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Military aircraft program experience.
  • MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC-429 and Ethernet architecture and knowledge.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong leadership, team building and mentoring skills.
  • Knowledge of processor and board support software design.
  • Knowledge of firmware development and certification.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
Responsibilities
  • Leads work with customers to develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements on complex multi-tiered projects.
  • Leads analysis and translation of complex requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.
  • Leads testing and validation work on complex system designs to assure that operational and functional requirements are met.
  • Works with other to develop program test strategies.
  • Manages performance of critical suppliers to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.
  • Conducts program independent reviews and reports results to program leadership.
  • Provides critical support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.
  • Leads research into technology advances for potential application to company business needs.
  • Makes recommendations for technology investments.
  • Recognized as a business unit-wide expert in process development and qualification, physical and functional integration and installation design and resolving supplier technical issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and may be requested to support other programs as needed.
