As a Design and Development Technologist, you will be responsible to design, evaluate, and provide comments and expertise on several projects and programs pertaining to waste management facilities infrastructure. Primary duties include:
- Design and review waste management facilities (WMFs) infrastructure such as landfill cells, leachate collection systems, and access roads, in accordance with City, Provincial and/or Federal design guidelines and standards.
- Review function designs, develop and evaluate design alternatives, and conduct field investigations to ensure designs accommodate current circumstances and upcoming needs.
- Examine and make recommendations to construction cost estimates, specifications and drawings.
- Prepare both conceptual and detailed development plans, perform 3D modeling and earth modeling tasks, estimate quantities and analyze data to support planning, design, implementation and record management of Waste & Recycling Services (WRS) capital projects.
- Perform survey calculations, prepare survey stake-out data, and interpret survey field notes.
- Maintain and update the Municipal Government Act (MGA) Subdivision and Development Regulation (SDR) Landfill Setbacks and Work Areas.
- Maintain inventory of all electronic and hardcopy record drawings/as-builts to ensure adherence to Corporate Computer-aided Drafting (CAD) standards and Information Management standard requirements.
- Support record management activities, including (but not limited to) maintaining the GIS database, conducting verification, and performing location surveys for WRS assets.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A completed 2-year technical diploma in civil engineering or related field and at least 5 years of progressive experience in infrastructure design and construction.
- Proficiency in AutoDesk Civil3D and 3D modeling and experience with ArcGIS Pro and earth modeling software are required.
- Experience in interpreting construction drawings, as-built markups, sketches, shop drawings, survey field notes, project specifications, preparation of tender documents and field inspection is required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
- Experience with Trimble Business Centre, MicroStation and Content Server would be considered assets
- You have exceptional communication and facilitation skills with the ability to present highly technical information to diverse groups of parties in a manner that is accurate and easily understood.
- Demonstrated problem solving, judgement and well-developed decision-making abilities.
