Design and Drafting Technician: Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is currently looking to fill one (1) departmental full-time position.
Design and Graphics Technician: The Design and Graphics Technician reports to the Senior Design and Graphics Technologist, and provides drafting services for works related to the preservation, design and construction of structures on the Water Infrastructure Capital and Preservation programs.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s licence.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to construction worksites.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all of the required duties of the position.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of a Civil Technologist Diploma, or Civil Technician Certificate, or completion of Department’s Level 3 training program, or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Directly related computer aided design and drafting software experience.
  • Directly related preliminary roadway and/or drain construction survey experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills for building and maintaining positive working relationships with diverse work groups.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities in order to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze incomplete or conflicting data, and make decisions or recommend alternative solutions for a wide range of design and drafting problems.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of department design and drafting standards, practices and policies.
  • Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Experience with the preparation of design and construction drawings for earthwork, culvert, water control and/or flood protection infrastructure.

Duties:
The Design and Drafting Technician works in an advanced technical environment requiring specialized technical ability to perform various waterway design duties which include drafting, earthwork design and quantities, Digital Terrain Models (DTM), while adhering to department standards, policies and procedures. Position requires extensive interaction and co-operation with project team(s) to ensure the Department’s overall objectives are met.
The Design and Graphics Technician is responsible for processing survey data, detailed earthwork volume designs and concepts, and preparation of drawings for environmental submission, land acquisition, design and construction.
