KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

In this role you are:

• Designing vessels in accordance with the criteria of the client;
• Providing technical support to the Damen Sales organization during the contracting process, for example by giving presentations or providing calculations;
• Optimizing (standard) designs, in order to lower the price and enhance quality, reliability and the functionality of the vessels;
• Liaising with internal departments (Research, Engineering, Services) and external parties for optimal project results;
• Keeping track of the overall progress in the pre-sales phase;
• Managing internal stakeholders;
• Product development and optimization including market research and concept design;
• Setting up a project planning (milestones), calculating supplemental work and cost savings, preparing a list of deviations and other client specific data;
• Preparing ship designs, specifications, cost calculations and build strategies for sales prospects;
• As a Senior we expect you to be able to be leading or coaching (some) product group team members;

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this role you bring:

• A Bachelor or Master degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture;
• Work experience in ship design preferred dependent on the entry level;
• A customer-orientation, flexibility and the ability to work on various projects at the same time;
• Excellent communication skills in English and preferably in Dutch;
• The ability to express yourself well in a business conversation;
• Willingness to travel to clients all over the world.

THE ROLE

As a Design & Proposal Engineer you translate customer requirements into the design of a vessel in close cooperation with our Sales department. You prepare ship designs (Naval Architecture) and specifications, calculate costs and determine the delivery time through close collaboration with other departments within Damen (Research, Engineering, Production and Sales).
For the role of Design and Proposal Engineer, we are looking for the right person for the job whether you are a medior or senior engineer. In case you are more medior, you will prepare ship designs and specifications, calculate costs and determine the delivery time through close collaboration with other departments. In case you are a senior we will challenge you to optimize our current product portfolio, develop new vessels and guide some of your colleagues. We have a challenge for you, matching your level of experience!
