POSITION OVERVIEW

The Design Director ensures all Boyne properties maintain consistent, high-quality design that reflects our brand standards. This role creates the “design playbook” for our 100+ annual projects, building systems and processes that allow our properties to look cohesive while supporting efficient execution. You’ll be part creative director, part quality control manager, establishing the standards that guide every design decision across our portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Title: Design Director
Resorts To: EVP, Brand Creative & Experience
Location: Remote or Hybrid
Salary Range: $120,000–$140,000
Travel: Frequent travel required
FLSA: Exempt

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years in interior design for hospitality, retail chains, or other multi-location businesses
  • Experience creating and enforcing design standards across multiple properties
  • Strong technical skills in documentation, specifications, and quality assurance
  • Leadership experience managing design teams and external partners
  • Proficiency in design software and documentation tools
Responsibilities

  • Create Design Guidelines: Develop comprehensive design standards, material libraries, and template packages that designers can use for any Boyne property. Think furniture catalogs, color palettes, room layouts, and finish specifications that work across different property types.

  • Quality Control & Approval: Review all design plans, material selections, and furniture packages before they move forward to ensure they meet Boyne standards. You’re the final checkpoint before anything gets built or purchased.

  • Build Systems for Scale: Create processes, checklists, and documentation that allow our team to handle 100+ projects annually without compromising quality. Develop tools that make it easy for designers to do the right thing.

  • Train & Support Teams: Onboard new designers and consultants on Boyne’s design standards and systems. Be the go-to expert when teams have questions about brand compliance or design decisions.

  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Work closely with procurement to standardize furniture and material ordering, and with project managers to ensure design integrity throughout construction.

  • Manage Design Team: Lead internal designers and coordinate with external design partners to maintain consistent output and performance standards.

  • Leverage Technical Skills: Bring technical fluency across drawing sets, consultant coordination, code compliance, and material integration to ensure designs are buildable and aligned from concept through execution.
