POSITION SUMMARY You are a design storyteller at heart — a creative voice who crafts spaces that speak through tone, texture, and emotion. As Design Director – Storytelling & Design Experience, you will lead how Marriott International’s Lifestyle brands express their identities through narrative-led design—ensuring each brand’s voice remains distinct, culturally relevant, and emotionally resonant while benefiting from the scale of a global system. This role serves multiple Lifestyle brands—including citizenM, Aloft, Moxy, and Renaissance, with the potential to influence others—guiding how brand DNA translates into space, experience at a macro scale, down to art and styling on a micro level. With an instinct for both concept and craft, you shape narratives that begin with words and culminate in space. From early ideation storytelling to final styling and art curation, you ensure that every touchpoint—from arrival to activation—tells a cohesive story aligned to brand intent. You will create tools to support and collaborate closely with Continent Design partners, animating spatial sequencing and guest journeys so that each Lifestyle brand feels unmistakably itself—never diluted or generic. Travel: 50 - 60 % CANDIDATE PROFILE Education and Experience Required: 4-year degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related creative discipline Seven or more years’ experience in hospitality or lifestyle design, including creative direction, storytelling, and art curation Proven ability to lead multi-brand concept narratives from idea through implementation Deep understanding of art, styling, and cultural storytelling as drivers of brand differentiation Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate abstract ideas into actionable design direction Global perspective with sensitivity to local culture, craft, and context Fluency in design visualization, narrative presentation, and digital collaboration tools Willingness to travel globally CORE WORK ACTIVITIES Creative & Strategic Leadership Brand Identity Stewardship: Translate each brand’s ethos—whether irreverent, playful, art-forward, or culturally rooted—into spatial expression that balances creative boldness with operational clarity Portfolio Vision: Establish long-term storytelling strategies that align with Marriott design standards while protecting the editorial voice and identity of each Lifestyle brand Narrative Direction: In partnership with Continent Design Teams, define and oversee story arcs for a portfolio of Lifestyle projects, shaping mood, message, and design intent from earliest concept through execution Innovation & Design Experience Concept Development: Advance Lifestyle design languages through new prototypes, pilots, and experience models, emphasizing story-led design and emotional resonance Art & Styling Leadership: Guide the selection, commissioning, and integration of art, styling, and accessories that reflect cultural intelligence and brand sensibility Material & Mood Translation: Create visual toolkits defining color, materiality, tone, and layering—ensuring consistency while allowing creative latitude across regions and brands Collaboration & Influence Creative Advocacy: Present ideas with emotional intelligence, logic, and visual clarity—building confidence among internal leaders, owners, and external partners Global Continuity: Collaborate with Continent Design teams to localize brand expression while maintaining global coherence and creative integrity Benchmark Projects: Oversee key “halo” projects across Lifestyle brands, ensuring storytelling, art, and experience intent remain intact from concept through installation Please submit a portfolio with your application for review.
