DESIGN ENGINEER – AUTOMATION EQUIPMENT & FIXTURES (SOLIDWORKS)

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our Automation Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing custom automation equipment parts, tooling, and fixtures using SolidWorks. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to deliver robust, efficient, and manufacturable solutions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
· 2+ years of experience designing mechanical systems or automation equipment (entry-level may be considered with strong project experience)
· Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, drawings, configurations)
· Understanding of manufacturing methods: machining, welding, sheet metal, and 3D printing
· Familiar with automation components (actuators, bearings, linear guides, sensors, pneumatic systems, etc.)
· Knowledge of tolerance analysis, GD&T, and standard drafting practices
· Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
· Experience with PDM or PLM systems
· Hands-on experience in a machine shop or with assembly/testing
· Exposure to motion control, robotics, or control systems
· Knowledge of simulation tools (FEA, motion analysis in SolidWorks)

Responsibilities

· Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and fixtures for custom automation systems
· Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks
· Collaborate with project managers, machinists, and controls engineers to ensure design intent and manufacturability
· Apply GD&T and DFM/DFA principles to ensure accuracy and cost-effectiveness
· Conduct design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, and risk assessments
· Support the fabrication and assembly teams during build and debug phases
· Work with suppliers to source components and optimize material selection
· Revise designs based on feedback from shop floor, testing, or quality teams
