JOB SUMMARY:

The AV Design Engineer serves as a technical resource to the sales team and clients, supporting the development of tailored AV solutions from concept through pre-buildout. This role focuses on client needs analysis, bill of materials and scope creation, and AV system design documentation. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and clients to ensure all designs meet technical, aesthetic, and operational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial AV system design and implementation
  • Senior-level knowledge of AV systems including:
  • AV networking and topology
  • Large-format displays, projectors, and screens
  • Speakers and audio DSPs
  • Matrix switchers/mixers
  • Unified communications platforms and video conferencing codecs
  • Custom control systems
  • Strong understanding of networking as it relates to AV (VLANs, Subnetting, IGMP)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, OneNote)
  • Familiarity with commercial construction practices
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong documentation, time management, and task prioritization skills
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently in a remote setting
  • Positive team player with high emotional intelligence, empathy, and professionalism
  • Consultative mindset and a drive for continuous learning
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity for creating drawings and documents
  • Occasional lifting and handling of light objects
  • Comfortable with varied noise levels and temperature environments
  • Primarily indoor work, with occasional outdoor exposure during site visits

Responsibilities
  • Conduct client needs analysis to inform system design
  • Create and refine Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Scopes of Work (SOWs)
  • Produce design drawings using Visio, AutoCAD, and/or Bluebeam
  • Maintain and obtain manufacturer and industry certifications (CTS-D preferred)
  • Help develop and uphold internal engineering standards
  • Interpret and edit engineering and architectural drawings, project schedules, and other technical documents
  • Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure successful handoff
  • Travel occasionally (<5%) for client visits or site walks
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
