JOB OVERVIEW

KPM’s Sightline division is looking for a Design Engineer to join our high-tech engineering and manufacturing company that is committed to customer service excellence and continuous improvement. In this role you will develop innovative solutions for performing vision inspection with integrated material handling including conveyors and rejection. You will work collaboratively with Product Development and Production by providing DfM input and manufacturing requirements, then designing material handling systems for high-speed vision inspection. You will collaborate with applications development in the design of custom parts/solutions by analyzing part manufacturability, understanding supplier capabilities, and developing critical to quality criteria. Finally, you will be responsible for design, testing, and analysis at all stages of product development from concept to deployment of systems that exceed customer expectations for product quality and delivery.
The Location: KPM is a global company with locations worldwide. This position is based in Kanata, Canada.

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 Years professional DfM experience
  • Proficient in using Solidworks software
  • Experience with AutoCAD software
  • Experience with ERP and/or PDM systems
  • Experience with design of industrial automation equipment
  • Experience with design for sanitary/food application

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to customer sites is an asset

Responsibilities:

System Design

  • Create, prototype, design, and analyze equipment such as industrial inspection systems, conveyors, control panels and related components for food inspection equipment
  • Ensure design completed in accordance with project requirements, compliance with relevant standards, and good DFM/A practices
  • Generate 3D and 2D models and drawings while adhering to good drafting standards
  • Integration of mechanical/electrical assemblies and third-party industrial components into system design
  • Participate in product definition and concept development
  • Participate in and document prototype design, testing and validation
  • Generate accurate BOM and update ERP system
  • Prepare technical documentation for customers and coworkers
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge related to KPM products, related technologies, and applicable standards

Manufacturing and Technical Support

  • Provide technical support and training/documentation to production team
  • Follow ECO procedure to identify, investigate, and resolve manufacturing problems
  • Interface with purchasing and procurement teams on component sourcing, alternatives, and pricing
  • Provide advanced technical support to resolving customer issues/provide customer training

Site Work (Occasional)

  • Travel to customer sites around the globe, primarily North America
  • Participating in and overseeing technical work completed by Sightline/KPM Employees and/or third part contractors
  • Positively represent Sightline by maintaining high standards of professionalism
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Formal Education and Training
  • Formal Engineering education (Mechanical Engineering preferred)

Experience
