Job: Design Engineer Location: Waukesha, WI Company: H. O. Bostrom Be deeply involved in full lifecycle product development, from concept through prototype, testing, and production. Work directly with customers or product management, collaborate on the shop floor, and design in SolidWorks in a hands-on, cross-functional role. If you’re a Mechanical Engineer with a few years of experience who wants more than just CAD work, this role gives you the chance to take ownership of 2–3 projects at a time, guiding them from initial scope of work through market research, design, fabrication, testing, and final production, with support from experienced team members. What You’ll Do: Lead design efforts for proof-of-concept prototypes using SolidWorks Manage projects from concept through production, including design, BOMs, testing, and release Partner with Sales and customers to understand application needs and translate them into practical solutions Work closely with the shop floor to support manufacturing, assembly, troubleshoot issues, and refine designs for manufacturability Collaborate cross-departmentally to order parts, support light fabrication, and troubleshoot mechanical assemblies Evaluate designs for form, fit, function, cost, and reliability Collaborate cross-functionally to align design, manufacturing, and customer requirements Serve as a technical resource for internal teams and customers Support product testing, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives What You Bring: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering 3+ years of design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment Strong 3D modeling skills (CAD design and modeling; SolidWorks preferred) Experience with ERP systems (items, BOMs, routings), desired Strong familiarity with sheet metal, tubing, welding, and hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies Ability to take initiative and manage projects in a fast-paced environment Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills About the Role: Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, this position allows you to lead engineering projects while collaborating with a skilled team to deliver high-quality solutions on time and within budget.
