Description

An automotive plastics parts manufacturer in the area of Woodstock, ON is currently searching for a Design Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, modifying, and improving parts that meet performance, cost, and manufacturability standards.
This is a full time, and direct hire position with an excellent benefits package. This role is 100% on-site.

DESIGN ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in engineering or a related technical field is required
  • 2~3 years’ experience using CAD design software’s (Catia V5, Siemens NX 11)
  • 2 years of experience in testing/validation equipment such as spray equipment and Instron
  • Knowledge of Mold Flow is a big plus
  • Strong work experience of plastics & other automotive parts materials will be a big plus
  • May be required to travel and visit other company sites at times including plants in the US.
  • Great communication skills in read, speak and write both internal and and with customers
  • While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 35 pounds, lift in excess of 35 pounds with a lift assist, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automotive plastic components using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, quality, and sales) to ensure design feasibility and performance.
  • Conduct DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate design risks.
  • Modify and optimize designs based on testing results, customer feedback, and tooling limitations.
  • Support tooling development and ensure designs are compatible with injection molding and assembly processes.
  • Prepare and maintain design documentation including 2D drawings, create 3D model, BOMs, and engineering change requests.
  • Interact directly with customers and suppliers to review specifications and incorporate design changes.
  • Ensure designs comply with automotive industry standards, safety regulations, and cost targets.
